F.A.Q.

Q. Is this game 2D or 3D or both?

A. The original plan for this game was to use 2D sprites on a 3D world, similar to the system Ragnarok Online uses, (or you can download our old Engine in the Downloads section to see how it would have looked) but we soon realised it would be possible to make the entire game in 3D, which is what we have done. So, 3D all the way in other words.

Q. Is Trilinear still working on the project?

A. No, he is not currently actively involved at the moment due to having enough programming in 'real life' to spend much time on the project. That is not to say he might not return and continue where he left off when he has time ;). At the moment MrSiggler (SmashDC, Megaman: Oddyssey) is Lead Programmer, and is being assisted by Dragonsimoto and EvilSporkMan whose names you might recognise from their contributions to the DC Coding Contest recently.

Q. What improvements does the current Engine have over the one you abandoned work on? Because that one looks great!

A. The power of the DC and the massive improvements in KGL since this project began allowed the Project Team to make the decision to switch fully to 3D. This is in itself not necessarily an improvement, but Engine improvements already in place in our new Game Engine include:

Q. Will this game be Real Time Combat like Zelda, or Turn Based Combat like Final Fantasy?

A. Ideally I would like to include both to suit all preferences, but if this is unfeasible it will have a 'limited' real time combat system. By 'limited' I mean that it will still play as an RPG rather than as an action game; look at games such as Secret Of Mana on the SNES or Chrono Trigger to see examples of real time combat that still uses an RPG style combat engine.

Q. I only have dialup, isn't this going to be a huge download?

A. It will be as small as we can possibly make it. We will release a 'lite' version of the game for those on dialup with low bitrate mono sound etc, and will provide an 'upgrade' pack for those who wish to download it which will include higher bitrate stereo MP3s, cut scenes / whatever, so those who want to experience the game 'as its meant to be' can still do so, but it will be an optional extra so those who arent that bothered and have slow connections can enjoy it just as much.

Q. Will there be Secrets / Sidequests / Minigames?

A. RPG fans are nothing if not completists, and for that reason I can assure you there will indeed be secrets, sidequests *and* minigames. And as many of each as we can fit in :D

Also, as there will be fairly substantial waits between each released 'chapter' we will be trying to make each chapter able to withstand as much repeat playing as possible, so people don't get bored waiting between chapters... In fact I don't think I'll be giving away too much to say that you might be seeing some well known DC Homebrew games making appearances as sub games in this RPG ;)

Q. When Is this game out? I can't wait!

A. Short Answer: When its ready to be released :P

Long Answer: Each 'chapter' of the game will be released when it is ready for public consumption; some chapters will be quicker than others to make, and some chapters will take a very long time to make, so there's no real timeframe in place for releases. Generally speaking however, I would assume each new chapter will be released within about 3 months of the previous one.
