PCSXDC Burning Tutorial

Due to the overwhelming majority of people asking me out to burn PCSXDC I have decided to spend time to make this tutorial.

First let me say one thing. If you are planning to actually play a playstation game and want sound do not bother with this. Right now it is really just for testing purposes. I am quite positive that Mark (PCSXDC Author) will optimize his work so that it runs decent on Dreamcast. But for the time being, if you want playable speeds, don't bother.

Well the tutorial starts here. Let me tell you that the current version of PCSXDC does NOT support swapping your disc with a normal playstation game. I repeat you CANNOT load the emulator up and then swap it with a normal PSX game. So how do you play your game you ask? Well you have to make a .bin image of your PSX game and burn it on a CD.

Also you might want to burn an official bios on to the CD. It has been proven in most cases that the scph1001 PSX bios runs games better then the HLE one included in PCSXDC. This bios however is illegal and I cannot put it up on the site. However a refined search on google will turn up results on where you can get it.

Now, how to make a bin file. The fastest and easiest way I have found is to use CDRWIN to make an image out of your playstation game. You can download a free demo of CDRWIN at http://goldenhawk.com/ . Once CDRWIN is installed click on "Extract Disc/Tracks/Sectors" button on the main menu. After that select the filename you want to save your image as and just click Start. This may take a while depending on how big your game is. After it is done you should have a .cue file and a .bin file. You do not need the .cue file only the .bin .

I am going to tell you the way to make it so yo have to swap discs. You can burn both the emulator and game on the CD but I woll not go over that in this tutorial. Now just download the image of the emulator you want and burn it. Download PAL if you live in Europe and download NTSC if you live in Japan or North America.

PCSXDC 1.4 DiscJuggler (NTSC)
PCSXDC 1.4 Nero (NTSC)
PCSXDC 1.4 Plain Files (NTSC)
PCSXDC 1.4 Nero (PAL)
PCSXDC 1.4 DiscJuggler (PAL)
PCSXDC 1.4 Plain Files (PAL)

Once the emulator is burned now all you have to do is burn your game and bios. Open up your favorite burning program and create a data CD. Do not actually treat the .bin file as an image and burn it just make it so the CD has the .bin file of the game on it. After it is burned you are now ready to play.

Now just pop in the PCSXDC disc and wait for it to load. Once it reaches the the main menu screen open up the Dreamcast, take out the PCSX disc, and put the CD with the bios and the PSX game in the Dreamcast. Shut the Dreamcast and give it a few seconds to load. Now, hit Y To go to the configuration screen. Press right on the thumbpad to go to the bios selection screen. If you want to pick spch1001 press A on the <..> , Go down to the "cd" folder and press A, and click on the scph1001 bios. Now press right again on the thumbpad to goto the game selection screen. Press teh A button the the .bin file you made of you game. Now you are all set, press B to get back to the main menu and press Start to run the game. It may take anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes to load. If the game does not load after 5 mins go to the configuration menu and screw around with the options [like keep SIO enabled, etc] . If it STILL does not load that most likely means that the emulator does not support your game.

Please do not complain to me or the author that the speeds are too slow to play. I told you before this tutorial that if you were expecting playable speeds do not bother burning.

Now that you have tested the game you can email me or AIM me your results! Have fun!
